My parents lived in Copthall Avenue from 1937 to 2000 approx. Mum died 1994 and Dad moved to Crane House Gardens and died 2005. I was born 1948 and moved away to Rolvenden in 1974 but never realised there was a Golf Links Course in Conghurst Lane. I do remember Colin Golding who was apprenticed to Mr Weller at Pipers Printing works on Highgate and instrumental in starting the Wealden Advertiser. Mr Lumb was the Headmaster of the Junior School. Mr Wickins the caretaker. Mr Rummery the Verger, Percy Weston the Organist at All Saints, Mrs Relf at St Laurence. Its all flooding back!
I too have many happy memories of Hawkhurst!

My parents (Mary and Gordon Martin) lived in Links View (now April Cottage) in Conghurst Lane in the late 1950s and lived there til the 1990s. It was so called because it overlooked Links Farm which my father established on the site of the original golf course.I went to the scouts in Hawkhurst with my friend Mick Eames, Colin and Robert Golding from Conghurst Lane (and my brother Nigel) as well as several others from the Hawkhurst area.
Mick and I walked down Stream Lane to junior school at the moor. Later I went to the dreadful Swattenden School, catching the school bus from the Shop at the end of Conghurst Lane. I have many more memories of Hawkhurst, happy times.
I've now retired to the New Forest overlooking the IOW and enjoying being a Grandfather ... Chris Martin

Caius forwarded your message to me and I would be delighted to hear your information about Basil and the Ready family. I did my research as you say a long time ago.

Hi Lynn,
I realise that your post is 4 years old but I am looking for names and dates of my late mother-in-law Ruby Annie Nightingale (Tilbe) siblings and wondered if you can help.

Good evening I was just wondering if there is a jumble sale in the village this year? Kind regards Sophie :)
Jenner / Blackford

In my ancesttry research I find that my Grandfather, Luke, John Blackford born 1862 was the illegitimate son of John Jenner and Caroline Blackford - Hense had the surname Blackford.
Do I have any Jenner relatives descended from their LEGITIMATE sons & daughter - William Alfred born 1864, Mark Thomas born 1867 and Florence Javeny born 1876?

There is the Kent County Archives in Maidstone and the Sussex County Archives near Brighton which both hold a large amount of historical records and data. There is a National Archives site that you can search on-line. Some villages also have Historical Societies that can also be helpful.
